MYSORE MARQUETRY…..Rosewood Inlay Furniture….

This ancient woodcraft of inlay is being practiced and appreciated from centuries….Intricate motifs are etched delicately with colored wood or acrylic and are inlaid and fixed against a wooden frame like that of rosewood….

Traditionally, this art involved
ivory and rosewood….But, due to the ban on ivory, craftsmen inlay shell or plastic….Teak, mango or even ply and MDF is being used as a substitute for the otherwise expensive rosewood….

Lately, I visited Mysore and I came across these pieces in one of the handicraft shop… And an immediate desire sprouted up….to possess one of these pieces and to make my “Home Sweet Home’ look more aesthetic…

And YUPPPPPPPPPPP... :)
It was fulfilled with the help of an artisan from MYSORE….Whose family has been carrying forward this artwork from generations….And I was lucky enough to get a square cocktail table and a dining table sculpted by his magical hands.

I will leave you with some of the pictures of these wonderful pieces….which I think are worth taking a peek at J.

The dining table also has tiny mirrors inlaid onto it along with the other coloured wood. Here are a few pics...
